Lake Macquarie Yacht Club members operate a fleet of radio controlled yachts known as the Windwarriors.
The Windwarrior is a New Zealand designed radio controlled model yacht with a worldwide fleet. Racing is conducted for 1 1/2 hours and in that period from 6 to 8 races are scheduled. The entry fee for the racing is $3 for the day. A competitor must also be a member of Lake Macquarie Yacht Club. Spectators are welcome and skippers will be prepared to allow you to have a sailing trial.
The Windwarriors are raced from the Northern side of the Clubhouse every Thursday afternoon from 4:30pm and Saturdays during June, July and August from 1:30pm.

The Windwarriors started competitions on an informal basis in 2004. Due to increase in numbers permanent trophies were introduced and awarded from 2006.When the G 3 design became prevalent Divisions were formed from 2006.Separate Trophies for Scratch and Performance were introduced in 2010 A Gun Boat Trophy for the most wins in a Division was inaugurated in 2008. In 2017 the Orrell Cup for Pursuit racing was inaugurated.
